Children’s Sports Injury
At our clinic, we specialize in treating a wide range of sports injuries in children, with a focus on tailored, effective treatment plans to ensure quick recovery and safe return to activity. Below are some of the common injuries we treat, along with the specific treatments we offer:
ACL Injury
We provide advanced treatment for ACL injuries, including conservative approaches like physical therapy, bracing, and activity modification to allow healing. For more severe cases, we offer minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery to reconstruct the ACL, followed by a customized rehabilitation program to restore strength and function. Our goal is to return young athletes to their sports with full knee stability.
Discoid Meniscus
For children diagnosed with a discoid meniscus, our clinic offers both conservative and surgical treatment options. Initially, we may recommend physical therapy and activity modification to alleviate symptoms. If the meniscus is torn or symptomatic, we offer arthroscopic surgery to reshape or remove the abnormal meniscal tissue, improving knee function and relieving pain.
Little League Elbow
For Little League elbow, we employ a multi-step treatment approach, starting with rest and modifications to throwing mechanics to reduce stress on the elbow. Our team may also suggest physical therapy to address any strength imbalances. In cases of more severe damage to the elbow’s growth plate, surgical intervention may be necessary to repair the area, improve condition and prevent further injury.
Little League Shoulder
Treatment for Little League shoulder focuses on rest and rehabilitation. We guide young athletes through physical therapy to correct muscle imbalances and improve flexibility. If the condition persists or results in growth plate damage, we offer minimally invasive surgery to repair the growth plate and restore shoulder function, ensuring a safe return to sports.
Osgood-Schlatter Disease
We provide a combination of non-surgical treatments including rest, ice therapy, anti-inflammatory medications, and physical therapy to strengthen the muscles around the knee and alleviate pain. In rare cases, if symptoms are severe or persistent, surgical intervention may be considered to remove excess tissue or address growth plate issues.
Osteochondritis Dissecans
Osteochondritis dissecans is treated based on the severity of the condition. Non-surgical options include rest, activity modification, and physical therapy to maintain joint function. For more advanced cases, we offer arthroscopic surgery to remove or repair the damaged cartilage and bone, restoring proper joint mechanics and relieving pain.
Shin Splints
We start with conservative treatments such as rest, ice, and stretching exercises to relieve pain and prevent further injury. We also address potential contributing factors such as improper footwear or alignment issues. If necessary, we provide physical therapy to strengthen the muscles and improve biomechanics, helping prevent future shin splints.
Sprains
Sprains are treated with the R.I.C.E. protocol (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) in the initial phase. Once the acute pain subsides, we offer physical therapy to restore range of motion and strength. For more severe sprains, we may provide splints or braces to support the joint during healing, ensuring full recovery and return to activity.
Strains
Strains are treated initially with rest and ice to reduce inflammation. Our treatment plan then includes physical therapy to strengthen the affected muscles and improve flexibility. If the strain is severe, we may recommend advanced modalities such as ultrasound therapy or, in rare cases, surgical intervention to repair torn muscle fibers or tendons.
